I recently joined Mind Matters with eight years of training providing therapy and assessment for children/adolescents. I am well-versed in helping families navigate complex mental health and educational systems, including advocating for supports or accommodations. My areas of focus include ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma and attachment disruptions, and academic struggles.

My Collaborative Approach to Psychoeducational Evaluations

The collaborative assessment model informs my approach to assessment. In this framework, we prioritize fostering trust and collaboration. This ensures a positive, informative, and therapeutic experience for you and your child, that sets the stage for creating change.

We begin by discussing what brings you to assessment. This could include questions about your child’s learning and intellectual strengths, their attention and concentration, and  their social-emotional world. We also explore your other goals for your child: perhaps you’d like to connect with them more, help them feel more self-confident, or find ways to support their success at school or in relationships. Through these conversations, I’m trying to understand your child as a whole person; this includes your family and cultural values, as well as your child’s home, school, and community environments.

Next, when I meet with your child, I help them feel supported and learn something more about themselves. This means spending time helping them feel comfortable and relaxed. As we work together, I pause for moments that can foster their curiosity or self-understanding.

In the last phase of the assessment, we adults meet first to discuss the results. I try to help you deepen your understanding of your child’s unique abilities and the underlying reasons for their challenges, so that you have a clearer sense of how to support them in their learning and growth.

A Little More About Me

Prior to Mind Matters, I worked in a variety of settings, including schools, outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatric facilities, and community mental health clinics. I earned my BA in English Literature from University of King's College/Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia and a Psy.D. from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking for friends and family, shopping at farmers’ markets, swimming, and running.
